He’s receiving major backlash.
Tyler Cherry, recently promoted to associate communications director at the White House, has begun deleting thousands of past tweets following controversy over their content, as reported by Fox News Digital.
According to Social Blade analytics, Cherry removed nearly 2,500 tweets from his former Twitter account between Sunday night and Monday morning. This action comes in response to backlash over Cherry’s resurfaced social media posts, which included criticism of police, Republican figures, and statements regarding Israel that drew attention and criticism from various quarters on social media.
The scrutiny intensified after several of Cherry’s older posts, made when he was in his twenties, surfaced and circulated online. Among the controversial remarks highlighted was a 2014 post expressing anti-Israel sentiments during the Gaza conflict and subsequent comments critical of U.S. law enforcement and Republican politics.
In response to the backlash, Cherry defended himself, stating on social media that his views have evolved since the time of those posts and do not reflect his current perspectives or his role supporting the current administration’s climate and environmental policies.
Critics and commentators, including conservative accounts and individuals, noted the deletion of Cherry’s tweets, questioning whether it was a personal decision or orchestrated by the White House to mitigate the controversy.
The White House has expressed support for Cherry despite the controversy surrounding his past social media activity. Andrew Bates, senior deputy press secretary, emphasized the administration’s confidence in Cherry’s role within the communications team but did not comment on the deletion of tweets when approached for clarification.
