VP Debate Countdown Begins

JD Vance and Tim Walz are gearing up.

On Thursday, Senator JD Vance announced that he has agreed to participate in a vice presidential debate with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, on October 1, following an invitation from CBS News. Vance shared his excitement on X, noting that he has also accepted an invitation for a debate with Walz on CNN scheduled for September 18.

Walz confirmed his participation in the CBS News debate on October 1. CBS had initially proposed four potential dates for the debate: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8. Walz has not yet responded to whether he will take part in the CNN debate on September 18, and the Harris campaign has not provided comments on Walz’s potential participation in the CNN debate.

CNN has confirmed that it extended invitations to both vice presidential candidates for a fall debate and acknowledged that Vance has accepted. A CNN spokesperson mentioned that the network is in ongoing discussions with the campaigns to provide opportunities for voters to hear from leading candidates.

Last week, Donald Trump indicated that the campaign had accepted CBS News’ invitation for a vice presidential debate, praising Vance for his performance. However, he did not specify the date at that time. During his first rally as Harris’ running mate, Walz expressed his eagerness to debate Vance. Trump and Harris are scheduled to face off in a debate hosted by ABC News on September 10.
