There is a divide.
During the CBS News Vice Presidential Debate, Fox News Digital’s debate dial group showed varied responses to Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, Governor Tim Walz, as he defended abortion rights against Senator JD Vance. When asked about Minnesota’s stance on abortion, which allows the procedure up until the ninth month, Walz countered, “That’s not what the bill says.”
As Walz articulated his support for abortion rights, Republican voter approval declined sharply, while independent and Democratic voters maintained a generally favorable view. Walz emphasized his commitment to women’s health care, stating, “What we did is restore Roe v. Wade, and we made sure that we put women in charge of their health care.” This statement resulted in a slight drop in independent approval but led to a significant increase among Democrats, with the two groups eventually aligning within the approval range. He further reinforced his position by asserting, “This is a basic human right.”
Throughout Walz’s remarks, independent voters remained just below the Democratic approval line, contrasting sharply with the significant disapproval from Republican voters.
