Sources familiar with the matter informed NBC News that former President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with congressional Republicans in Washington, D.C., this week. According to two congressional officials, Trump will convene with House Republicans in the morning at the Capitol Hill Club, followed by a meeting with Republican senators in the afternoon at the National Republican Senatorial Committee headquarters. Additionally, Trump is expected to address the Business Roundtable, a prominent lobbying group, during this time.
On June 17, House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and North Carolina Representative Richard Hudson, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, will visit Mar-a-Lago for a separate meeting with Trump. This gathering aims to provide Trump with updates on congressional races, as per sources familiar with the meeting arrangements.
In preparation for these meetings, Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming, the third-ranking member in the Senate Republican leadership, communicated via email to fellow GOP senators, expressing the importance of directly hearing from Trump about his plans for the summer. Barrasso emphasized the significance of sharing ideas for a strategic governing agenda in 2025.
A senior Trump campaign official confirmed that the upcoming meetings will focus on policy matters. The discussions will encompass various policy priorities, including Trump’s commitment to safeguarding Social Security and Medicare benefits for seniors, implementing border security measures to enhance community safety, and advocating for an America-first foreign policy that prioritizes national interests and global leadership.
