Trump Has Secret Meeting With GOP Powerhouse

He’s getting help fundraising.

In a recent development leading up to the 2024 election, former President Donald Trump held a private breakfast meeting with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, according to sources familiar with the matter. Described as “nice” and “friendly,” the meeting signals DeSantis’s intention to assist Trump with fundraising efforts for his campaign. The gathering was facilitated by Steven Witkoff, chairman of a real estate company, who shares connections with both Trump and DeSantis.

Although initially reported as a mutual agreement, a Trump campaign official revealed that DeSantis initiated contact through Witkoff two weeks prior to the meeting, aiming to reconcile differences and discuss fundraising strategies. The meeting took place in Florida, where DeSantis was golfing at Shell Bay Club near Miami, and Trump joined him for breakfast.

DeSantis had previously indicated his willingness to support Trump’s campaign during a private retreat in April, where he conveyed his intention to engage in fundraising activities. This development comes after a period of tension between the two, with DeSantis criticizing Trump’s approach during the Republican primary and questioning his focus on personal matters rather than national issues.

Despite their past differences, DeSantis eventually endorsed Trump after suspending his own presidential campaign, emphasizing the need for a departure from traditional Republican politics. While Trump has yet to announce his running mate, DeSantis has consistently stated his disinterest in the vice presidency or any other cabinet position, affirming his commitment to his gubernatorial role in Florida.
