He’s calling out those supporting Harris.
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina criticized members of his own Republican Party on Sunday for endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris’ potential presidential bid, questioning their decision and saying, “What the hell are you doing?” During an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Graham expressed his frustration, calling Harris “the most radical nominee in the history of American politics.”
His comments come after several prominent Republicans, including former GOP Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, as well as some former members of the Trump administration, voiced their support for Harris. Graham emphasized that the policies of President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris pose a significant threat to the country, attributing much of the current administration’s shortcomings to Harris. “Her fingerprints are all over this disaster,” he added, making it clear he does not want another four years of their leadership.
As Graham responded to questions from moderator Kristen Welker, he also addressed former President Donald Trump’s recent inflammatory rhetoric, where Trump repeatedly referred to Democrats as the “enemy from within.” At a rally in California, Trump specifically targeted Rep. Adam Schiff with this label, and during a Fox News interview, he reiterated this sentiment, extending it to include “radical-left lunatics.” Despite the backlash from Democrats over these statements, Trump continued to stand by his remarks in other media appearances.
Graham, however, downplayed Trump’s divisive language, suggesting that the Republican Party’s momentum comes from dissatisfaction with the current administration rather than Trump’s comments. He argued that Americans are looking for a shift in policies and linked Harris closely to the Biden administration’s failures. Graham referred to a recent interview where Harris was asked if she would change anything from the current administration, and her response that “nothing comes to mind” has been criticized by Republicans as dismissive.
Graham’s remarks appeared to reflect ongoing frustrations within the GOP, as the party prepares for the upcoming election cycle and positions itself against the Biden-Harris administration’s record.
