Security Concerns Soar Against Colorado Court Over Disqualification

They may have made a wrong decision.

A recent NBC News report uncovered a surge in threats against justices of the Colorado Supreme Court following their decision to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s Republican primary ballot. The report, obtained by NBC News, highlighted a concerning rise in violent rhetoric across social media platforms.

Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan organization focusing on public interest research, flagged a significant influx of threatening language targeting the justices and Democrats. These threats were often sparked by Trump’s posts on his Truth Social platform regarding the court ruling. Some social media users even went as far as sharing the justices’ contact information, including email addresses, phone numbers, and office locations.

Disturbing messages captured in the report included discussions of violent actions against perceived adversaries of Trump, ranging from suggestions of using hollow-point bullets, rifles, rope, and bombs to explicit calls for harming judges and their families.

This alarming trend echoes previous instances where legal actions involving Trump led to similar patterns of threats and harassment. Instances such as the FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, the indictment in Georgia, and threats against U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan illustrate a recurring cycle of intimidation against individuals involved in legal cases related to Trump.

Daniel J. Jones, president of Advance Democracy and a former FBI investigator, expressed deep concern over the consistent and aggressive nature of these threats. He emphasized the need for political leaders from both sides to condemn such violence and called for social media platforms to reassess their roles in hosting and amplifying such rhetoric.

Despite these concerning developments, neither the Colorado Supreme Court nor a representative from the Trump campaign provided immediate comments in response to the report and its findings.
