He’s making the wrong choice.
Senator Mitt Romney of Utah took a firm stance during an exclusive interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” affirming that he will not support former President Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Not shying away from his criticism of Trump, Romney highlighted the ex-president’s perceived threats to the nation, branding him as “dangerous” due to his purported authoritarian inclinations and actions.
In response to queries regarding his possible vote for President Joe Biden, Romney refrained from definitive statements but underscored his reluctance to endorse Trump for another term. He emphasized concerns about Trump’s behavior and tendencies, citing instances where he believes the former president attempted to wield control over the judiciary, legislative branches, and the nation as a whole.
Expressing skepticism toward the impeachment inquiry into Biden initiated by his Republican colleagues, Romney stressed the absence of evidence supporting any allegations of high crimes or misdemeanors against the current president. He emphasized the necessity for substantial evidence before endorsing such inquiries, questioning the legitimacy of the ongoing proceedings without concrete substantiation.
Regarding the upcoming election, Romney hinted at his reservations about both Biden and Trump’s candidacies. He expressed a preference for Senator Joe Manchin and highlighted former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley as a potential viable nominee within the GOP, excluding Trump. While refraining from endorsing any candidate and joking about the implications of his endorsement, Romney remained steadfast in his stance against supporting Trump and has maintained a consistent critical viewpoint of the former president since Trump’s initial presidential campaign in 2016.
