They are attacking RFK Jr.
Following Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s announcement that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing former President Donald Trump, numerous mainstream media outlets have sharply criticized him. Networks like CNN warned that Kennedy’s endorsement could significantly benefit Trump’s re-election bid. Publications such as the Washington Post and Politico have published critical articles that disparage Kennedy and his decision.
The Washington Post featured a scathing opinion piece by associate editor Karen Tumulty, who accused Kennedy of betraying the Kennedy family legacy with his endorsement of Trump. Tumulty described Kennedy’s campaign as embarrassing, highlighting his past controversial statements and behavior. She criticized his support for Trump as a significant departure from the principles traditionally upheld by the Kennedy family.
In addition to Tumulty’s piece, the Post’s Alexandra Petri wrote a satirical column mocking Kennedy, adopting the perspective of the parasite he claimed once lived in his brain. Petri’s column ridiculed Kennedy’s decision to back Trump, framing it as a fitting end to his campaign’s series of odd moments.
Politico joined the criticism with a listicle highlighting what they considered the “7 weirdest moments” from Kennedy’s campaign. This included his claims about a brain parasite, his ambiguous statements about conspiracy theories, and a debate he staged involving Biden and Trump.
Cable TV commentators also weighed in, with former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan suggesting that Kennedy’s departure from the race and endorsement of Trump might actually benefit Trump by consolidating far-right supporters. Hasan criticized Kennedy for his apparent reversal, noting the irony of Kennedy, who had previously denounced Trump, now supporting him. During the same segment, anchor Ari Melber labeled Kennedy as “unserious,” further reflecting the media’s general disdain for Kennedy’s recent decisions.
