JD Vance Hails Trump As ‘America’s Last Best Hope’

On Wednesday night, U.S. Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio accepted the Republican Party’s vice presidential nomination, praising his presidential running mate, former President Donald Trump, as “America’s last best hope.”

Speaking at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Vance expressed his honor in embracing Trump’s “extraordinary vision.” The 39-year-old Senator highlighted Trump’s recent resilience after surviving an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, stating, “When Donald Trump stood up in that Pennsylvania field, all of America stood with him.” Vance criticized the current leadership for failing on multiple fronts, including foreign policy, economic issues, and immigration, and asserted that Trump represents a crucial opportunity to restore the country’s lost promise.

Vance, hailing from Middletown, Ohio, emphasized the need for a leader who supports American workers and industries over multinational corporations. He described Trump as a champion for working-class people, particularly in the Midwest and rural areas.

Reflecting on his personal life, Vance spoke about his upbringing and family values, noting that his most significant aspiration was to be a good husband and father. He shared his experience of being raised by his grandmother while his mother struggled with addiction, and highlighted his mother’s decade-long sobriety.

On Monday, Trump announced Vance as his vice presidential pick via Truth Social, citing Vance’s distinguished background, including his service in the Marine Corps, academic achievements from Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and his successful career in technology and finance. Trump commended Vance for his focus on American workers and farmers.

Vance’s support for Trump marks a significant shift from his earlier criticism of the former president in 2016, when he had called Trump an “idiot” and compared him to “America’s Hitler.” In a recent interview, Vance admitted that his view of Trump evolved positively after his presidency, acknowledging that he had previously been influenced by media misrepresentations.
