Actor Robert De Niro joined a chorus of celebrities supporting President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign by narrating a new advertisement critical of former President Donald Trump.
The 30-second spot, set to air on television and digital platforms in battleground states, portrays Trump as a candidate driven by a desire for “revenge.”
“We witnessed Trump’s erratic behavior during his presidency,” De Niro, a longtime critic of Trump, states in the ad. “After losing the 2020 election, he became unhinged, desperately clinging to power.”
“Trump seeks vengeance, and he will go to any lengths to achieve it,” concludes the Academy Award-winning actor, as images of the January 6 Capitol attack flash on screen.
Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez emphasized the ad’s intent to highlight the stark contrast between Trump’s self-serving agenda and Biden’s commitment to serving the American people.
The ad also references Trump’s controversial remarks, including his suggestion of being a “dictator” and his false claims about the termination of the Constitution. These remarks originated from Trump’s statements during a Fox News town hall and a Truth Social post in December 2022.
Additionally, the advertisement recalls Trump’s infamous remarks about using “bleach” or “disinfectant” as a potential treatment for COVID-19, highlighting his handling of the pandemic’s early stages.
Celebrities have played a significant role in supporting Biden’s reelection efforts, with stars like Mindy Kaling, Lizzo, Stephen Colbert, and Cynthia Erivo participating in fundraising events. An upcoming fundraiser in Los Angeles is anticipated to feature prominent figures such as George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
