Harris Calls In The Big Guns To Target Battleground States

As the 2024 election intensifies, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to collaborate with two of the most prominent figures in the Democratic Party, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. The Harris campaign announced on Friday that they will participate in get-out-the-vote initiatives in two critical battleground states: Georgia and Michigan.

The first event will take place in Georgia on Thursday, October 24, shortly after early voting began in the state, which saw record-breaking participation. Following this, Harris and the Obamas will join forces in Michigan on Saturday, October 26, coinciding with the launch of early voting statewide. This marks the first time Harris has campaigned with either Obama since she ascended to the top of the Democratic ticket nearly three months ago. The Obamas, who have a long-standing friendship with Harris, officially endorsed her for the presidency in July, right after President Biden announced he would not seek re-election and supported his vice president instead.

Barack and Michelle Obama have actively campaigned for Harris, delivering key speeches during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this past August. Just last week, the former president was on the campaign trail for Harris in Pennsylvania, a state critical to the overall election outcome.

With the race for the presidency extremely tight, both the Harris and Trump campaigns are focused on mobilizing voters early, as early in-person, absentee, and mail-in voting is currently available in approximately 40 states. The Harris campaign plans to leverage these upcoming events to enhance voter engagement and enthusiasm among supporters ahead of Election Day on November 5, while also boosting volunteer efforts to increase turnout. Early voting has become more prevalent in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted many states to expand eligibility for early voting options. According to Fox News Voter Analysis from the 2020 election, 71% of voters cast their ballots before Election Day, with a significant portion voting early in person or by mail.
