Even Democrats are jumping ship.
Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat who has since become an Independent, has endorsed former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race, positioning him against Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking at the National Guard conference in Detroit on Monday, Gabbard emphasized the need for unity among Americans to reject political retaliation and abuse of power.
“As Americans, we must unite to reject the anti-freedom culture of political retribution and misuse of authority. We cannot let our nation be torn apart by politicians who prioritize their own power over the well-being, freedom, and future of the American people,” Gabbard declared.
Her endorsement coincided with the third anniversary of the suicide bombing that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members during the tumultuous withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Gabbard, who served as a Democratic representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021, invited Americans of all political affiliations to join her in supporting Trump’s return to the White House. “No matter if you’re a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent, if you love our country as I do, and if you value peace and freedom, I urge you to stand with me to save our nation by electing President Donald J. Trump,” she said.
Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party in 2022 after denouncing it as an “elitist cabal of warmongers,” has been a vocal critic of the party since her departure. She had previously run against Harris in the 2019 Democratic presidential primary and was recently recruited by Trump to assist with debate preparation for his upcoming September 10th debate against Harris at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia.
During the Democratic primary debates, Gabbard sharply criticized Harris for allegedly jailing hundreds of Californians for marijuana offenses while later admitting to using the drug herself. Gabbard remarked, “She incarcerated over 1,500 people for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when questioned if she ever used it.”
Since switching her party affiliation, Gabbard has been active in conservative circles, speaking at events like the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference.
