Florida Launches Lawsuit To Block Biden

He’s not going to be able to do whatever he wants.

Florida took legal action on Tuesday to challenge President Biden’s recent adjustments to Title IX, with Governor Ron DeSantis accusing the president of exceeding his constitutional authority. DeSantis announced the lawsuit on social media, revealing that Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina had also joined the legal effort. Biden’s revisions to Title IX, among other provisions, prevent schools from prohibiting biological males from participating in women’s sports.

DeSantis criticized Biden’s actions on social media, stating, “Florida is suing the Biden Administration over its unlawful Title IX changes.” He condemned Biden’s alleged abuse of constitutional power, arguing that it promotes an ideological agenda harmful to women and girls and contradicts factual realities. Alongside the states, plaintiffs in the lawsuit include the Independent Women’s Law Center, Independent Women’s Network, Parents Defending Education, and Speech First, Inc.

The Biden administration’s revised interpretation of Title IX broadens the definition of “sex” to include “gender identity” and “sexual orientation.” It mandates schools to ensure the use of “preferred pronouns” for students under the risk of losing federal funding for non-compliance. Additionally, the rule prohibits schools from segregating or treating individuals differently based on sex, impacting facilities like locker rooms and bathrooms based on gender identity.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr expressed opposition to the changes, asserting that they pose a threat to women and the integrity of women’s sports. Carr argued that the Biden administration’s directive undermines protections for female athletes by allowing biological males to compete against females. The lawsuit argues that Biden’s actions represent an overreach of authority and seek to circumvent established legislation by Congress.

Carr has been a vocal critic of Biden’s Title IX revision since its introduction in July 2022, advocating for the preservation of women’s sports. He has previously urged the NCAA to repeal rules allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports and has supported similar legislative efforts in states like Arizona and West Virginia through legal action.
