Many students suffered because of him.
May Lor Xiong, a former educator and Republican candidate for Minnesota’s 4th Congressional District, has criticized Governor Tim Walz’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, claiming it led to significant educational setbacks for immigrant students. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Xiong, who has 20 years of experience in public education, revealed that approximately 50% of students in Minnesota are struggling with reading at their appropriate grade level due to pandemic disruptions.
Xiong noted that immigrant students, particularly those from minority backgrounds, were disproportionately affected by these educational challenges. According to her, many of these students were unable to meet grade-level literacy standards, which continues to be a major concern for educators. She mentioned that during the pandemic, she had to visit the homes of her students’ families to help them navigate online learning tools like the internet and iPads.
In her criticism of Walz, Xiong also referenced the 2020 unrest in Minneapolis, suggesting that his leadership contributed to the city’s turmoil. She expressed concerns that, if elected, Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris might lead the country into further disarray. Xiong, who describes herself as a product of the American Dream after being born in a refugee camp, is focusing her campaign on addressing issues affecting the diverse communities in her district, which includes Hmong Americans, Korean Americans, Hispanics, and Somali immigrants.
During her outreach, Xiong has identified key concerns among voters, including the economy, education, and crime. She believes that current educational policies, which she describes as influenced by “indoctrination” and “socialist” agendas, are failing to address fundamental needs like literacy. Xiong emphasizes the need for leadership that will bring prosperity and effectively address these community concerns.
