Democrats Turn Tables Against Pelosi

There is turmoil within the Democrat party.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, once a powerful figure in Democratic politics, is now facing growing tensions with President Biden and some members of her party. Reports suggest that Pelosi played a key role in orchestrating efforts to urge Biden to step down from the Democratic ticket after numerous defections from Democratic lawmakers. Since Biden’s decision to bow out, their relationship has become notably strained.

Following Vice President Kamala Harris’s defeat, Pelosi expressed frustration, suggesting that the outcome might have been different if Biden had exited the race earlier. Speaking to The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast, she remarked that if Biden had stepped aside sooner, other candidates could have entered the race. However, Pelosi’s remarks have not been well-received by all within the party.

Axios reported that while Pelosi still commands respect from some, her public comments have frustrated many House Democrats. Some feel that she has not adhered to her earlier commitment to step back from the spotlight after losing the speakership two years ago. One anonymous senior Democratic lawmaker criticized her for continuing to comment on the election, calling her remarks “damaging” and urging her to “take a seat.”

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus also weighed in, with one member pointing out that Pelosi has not fully embraced her new, less prominent role. The member noted that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has shown respect toward Pelosi, but she has not reciprocated in the same way, and she needs to understand her place in the current leadership dynamic. A spokesperson for Pelosi responded by expressing pride in Jeffries’ leadership, highlighting the progress made under his guidance.
