Congressman Files Resolution To Have Biden Removed

He’s demanding action from Harris.

Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican representative from Texas, has proposed a resolution calling for the activation of the 25th Amendment to remove President Biden from office. This action comes in response to widespread criticism of Biden’s performance in a recent debate with former President Donald Trump. Roy’s resolution specifically demands that Vice President Kamala Harris and the Cabinet declare Biden unfit to fulfill his presidential duties, particularly those related to national security.

The 25th Amendment, ratified in 1967, provides guidelines for transferring presidential authority if the president is unable to discharge their responsibilities. Section 4 of the amendment allows the vice president, supported by a majority of the Cabinet, to declare the president unfit, thereby installing the vice president as the acting president.

Despite Roy’s proposal, Vice President Harris has dismissed concerns regarding Biden’s debate performance. While acknowledging a slow start, she praised Biden’s commitment to factual and truthful debate during an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

Roy’s resolution highlights broader bipartisan concerns about Biden’s leadership capabilities, amplified by reports questioning Biden’s memory and age-related issues. Critics, including former Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill, have expressed reservations about Biden’s ability to inspire confidence in his presidential competence given his age and recent performance.

Republican senators, including Sen. Mike Lee, have also voiced concerns suggesting that invoking the 25th Amendment might be warranted. Meanwhile, discussions among Democrats, as noted by Sen. Rick Scott, indicate ongoing debates about the application of the amendment in the current political context.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has stressed the urgency of assessing Biden’s capacity, advocating for the release of specific report tapes to evaluate his coherence, citing it as a significant national security concern.

In summary, Roy’s resolution contributes to mounting bipartisan unease about Biden’s fitness to lead, spurred by recent developments and ongoing deliberations within Congress about the implications of invoking the 25th Amendment.
