Biden’s Ohio Future In Jeopardy

He might not make it on the general election ballot.

In a letter obtained by NBC News, Ohio’s secretary of state, Frank LaRose, indicated on Friday that the Democratic National Convention’s timing might pose challenges for President Joe Biden’s appearance on the state’s general election ballot. The letter, addressed to Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Liz Walters, highlights that the convention, scheduled for August 19, 2024, falls after the August 7 deadline for certifying presidential candidates.

LaRose outlined two potential solutions to address this issue: either moving up the Democratic Party’s nominating convention or securing an exemption from the Ohio state legislature. The latter option would require legislative action by May 9, 90 days before the effective date of a new law.

Copies of the letter were also sent to Ohio State Representative Allison Russo, the state House minority leader, and Ohio State Senator Nickie Antonio, the state Senate minority leader.

As of NBC News’ inquiry, neither Biden’s campaign nor the Ohio Democratic Party had responded for comment on the matter.
