Harris Preaches Earning Votes Despite Skipping Primaries

She’s a hypocrite.

During a recent “60 Minutes” interview, Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the importance of political candidates earning the support of voters, despite facing scrutiny over her ascent to the Democratic presidential nomination without competing in primary elections for 2024. When journalist Bill Whitaker pointed out that a significant portion of registered voters feel unfamiliar with her, Harris acknowledged the challenge and reiterated her commitment to gaining voter trust.

“It’s an election, Bill, and I take it seriously that I have to earn everyone’s vote,” she stated, underscoring the gravity of the presidential election. Harris asserted that no one should assume automatic support merely by declaring their candidacy. “You have to earn it, and that’s what I intend to do,” she added.

Critics have accused the Democratic Party of prematurely designating Harris as its nominee, especially following President Biden’s abrupt withdrawal from the re-election race after his first debate with former President Trump. Many Republicans, along with organizations like Black Lives Matter, alleged that the party bypassed the voting process by rallying around Harris, who secured enough delegate backing at the Democratic National Convention in August to clinch the nomination.

In defense of the party’s actions, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described the nomination process as “open,” asserting that Harris rightfully “won it” despite the absence of a competitive primary contest. This situation highlights ongoing tensions regarding the democratic process within the party as the election approaches.
