They are resorting to name-calling.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has launched a new messaging campaign targeting Donald Trump in an effort to encourage him to return to the debate stage with Vice President Kamala Harris. The campaign aims to label Trump as a “chicken” for his decision not to participate in future debates. The DNC plans to use both static and mobile billboards to convey this message, with the first set to appear at Trump’s rally in Indiana, Pennsylvania. These billboards feature an image of Trump in a chicken suit accompanied by the statement, “There’s no debate: Donald Trump’s a chicken.”
Initially, the DNC had announced that staffers dressed in chicken suits would attend Trump rallies to amplify this messaging. However, they later revised this strategy. Instead, a pro-Harris student group at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will use inflatable chickens at Trump’s rally, continuing the theme in a less direct manner. The campaign marks an ongoing effort to challenge Trump’s refusal to engage in further debates with Harris.
Trump and Harris faced off in their first and only debate earlier this month, where they discussed key issues such as immigration, inflation, and abortion. Shortly after this event, Trump declared on his social media platform, Truth Social, that there would be no third debate. While Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation for another debate scheduled for October 23, Trump has reaffirmed his decision not to participate in any more debates, stating that voting had already started, making further debates unnecessary.
The DNC has highlighted that debates in the 2020 presidential cycle occurred even after early voting had begun, pointing out that Trump debated Joe Biden on October 22 that year. Despite the DNC’s efforts to pressure Trump into reconsidering, his campaign has yet to respond to the accusations or the new campaign strategy. The situation reflects the ongoing tension between the two campaigns as they continue their respective electoral strategies.
