Harris Faces Backlash After IRS Union Endorsement

Critics are warning of tax hikes.

Social media users have expressed concerns about a recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris by the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), which represents various federal employees, including those from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The union issued a statement praising Harris for her efforts to increase the IRS budget and formally endorsing her for the presidency. Many on X (formerly Twitter) view this endorsement as evidence that Harris should be kept away from the White House.

Conservative commentator Joey Mannarino remarked on X that the endorsement indicates potential tax increases under Harris’s leadership, urging followers to support Trump instead. In its press release, the NTEU explained that the Biden-Harris administration has significantly boosted agency budgets, enhancing staffing and resources for the IRS as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

NTEU National President Doreen Greenwald emphasized Harris’s respect for federal employees and commitment to effective governance in her statement. The Inflation Reduction Act, supported by the Biden-Harris administration, increased the IRS budget by $80 billion over the next decade, enabling the hiring of 87,000 additional agents.

Critics, including Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz, have raised alarms about the administration’s plans to further expand the IRS, citing a 2025 budget proposal that seeks an additional $104 billion for the agency. Social media users have reacted negatively to the NTEU’s endorsement. Conservative digital strategist Greg Price pointed out that many influential groups support Harris, suggesting that voters should choose the opposite candidate. Other commentators have criticized the endorsement as indicative of broader issues, with some expressing disbelief at Harris’s pride in receiving the union’s support. Prominent libertarian accounts also echoed these sentiments, questioning the motivations behind the endorsement.
