Nikki Haley criticized former President Donald Trump and Senate candidate JD Vance for their derogatory remarks about women and urged them to concentrate on policy issues instead. In a Monday interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, discussed the gender gap in polling, attributing part of Kamala Harris’s 14-point lead among women to the negative rhetoric used by Trump and Vance.
Haley emphasized that insulting Kamala Harris by calling her names or questioning her intelligence was unproductive. She suggested that such comments undermine the focus on substantive policies, which she believes are crucial for winning over voters. Haley argued that derogatory remarks not only alienate female voters but also detract from the strength of policy-driven campaigns.
Despite having criticized Trump’s approach, Haley has shown support for his policies. Although she declined to endorse him when leaving the GOP presidential race, she acknowledged in recent interviews that while she disagrees with Trump’s style and communication tactics, she respects his policy positions. Haley stressed that the focus should remain on policies rather than personal attacks.
Additionally, Haley commented on Trump’s frequent legal troubles and his public responses, stating that such behavior does not reflect the strong leadership needed for the country. She expressed concerns about Trump’s age and the implications for his capability to lead effectively, suggesting that his decline is a significant reason for her presidential candidacy. Haley reiterated her belief that a new direction is needed to address these issues.
