Former Presidential Candidate Encourages Mob Mentality

This a new low for political double standards.

At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the audience chanted “lock him up” after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized former President Donald Trump for his legal issues. This chant echoed the “lock her up” slogan used by Trump during his 2016 campaign against Clinton. Trump had frequently attacked Clinton’s record and promised to imprison her, which led to a similar response from the crowd now directed at him.

Clinton, 76, did not address the chanting directly but continued with her speech. She attempted to speak over the noise, and when the chanting intensified, she chose to stay silent at the podium until the crowd settled down. Her comments included a jab at Trump’s behavior during a recent courtroom appearance, where she joked about his status as a candidate with numerous felony convictions.

Trump was convicted in May on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records linked to hush money payments made before the 2016 election. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month, though legal analysts suggest that a prison term is unlikely for a first-time, non-violent offense. Vice President Kamala Harris has been working to moderate similar chants at campaign events to avoid the divisive rhetoric seen during Trump’s previous campaign.

Clinton’s speech also highlighted her support for Harris, emphasizing the significance of Harris’ candidacy. Clinton’s remarks inspired enthusiastic reactions from the delegates, with some visibly emotional. Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, Harris’ running mate, expressed his amazement, and his wife was seen crying during the speech.

Overall, Clinton’s address energized the Democratic delegates and reinforced support for Harris while taking a strong stand against Trump’s legal controversies.
