He’s not holding back.
President Joe Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris while criticizing former President Donald Trump, emphasizing his desire to see a “prosecutor in the Oval Office rather than a convicted felon.” Speaking just before midnight at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Biden urged voters to protect democracy by choosing against Trump, whom he labeled a “loser.”
Biden asserted that America is safer under his administration compared to Trump’s, highlighting achievements such as a significant drop in the murder rate and a reduction in violent crime to its lowest point in over 50 years. He argued that continuing this trend requires replacing Trump with a prosecutor in the White House.
The president’s remarks referenced Trump’s recent legal troubles, specifically a May jury verdict in New York where Trump was convicted of 34 felonies related to hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In his speech, Biden outlined his accomplishments on various fronts, including environmental protection, education, public safety, and support for labor unions. He also championed Harris, noting her resilience and commitment to key issues. Biden promised that a Harris presidency, supported by a Democratic majority in Congress, would work to restore Roe v. Wade and improve affordability for housing and prescription drugs.
On the convention’s opening day, speakers, including Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, praised Biden’s long-standing dedication to public service and his role in advancing Harris to the national stage. Former first lady and 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton also lauded Biden for his leadership and commitment to democratic values.
Although Biden announced last month that he would not seek reelection and would focus on his current duties as president, he endorsed Harris as his preferred successor. Despite not receiving primary votes this election cycle, Harris garnered sufficient delegate support to secure the Democratic nomination before the convention.
