He isn’t fit to run again.
A recent survey reveals that a vast majority of American voters support President Biden’s choice to end his 2024 re-election bid.
The New York Times/Siena College Poll, published on Thursday, shows that an impressive 87% of registered voters approve of Biden’s decision to not seek a second term. This figure represents one of the highest levels of consensus in recent Times/Siena polling.
Conversely, only 9% of those surveyed expressed disapproval of his decision.
In a brief Oval Office address on Wednesday, President Biden announced his decision to step aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
“In a few months, the American people will determine the direction of our nation. I’ve made my choice clear,” Biden stated from the White House. “I want to express my gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris. She is experienced, resilient, and capable. She has been an invaluable partner and a strong leader for our country.”
The address was attended by members of Biden’s family, including First Lady Jill Biden, daughter Ashley Biden, and son Hunter Biden, among others.
Former President Donald Trump criticized the address, describing it as “terrible” and alleging that Democrats were orchestrating a coup against the current president.
“I suspected a palace coup was underway, and I expected Harris to emerge as the likely successor,” Trump remarked. “She had the upper hand.”
