Biden’s Secret Weapon Against Trump

President Biden’s reelection campaign received a substantial financial boost from a fundraiser held at the home of former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe in McLean, Virginia. Joined by former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the event raised $8.1 million. Accompanying them was bestselling author John Grisham, known for his legal thrillers. At the fundraiser, Biden criticized former President Trump, labeling him a “convicted felon” in reference to Trump’s recent 34 felony convictions, a historic first for any U.S. president.

The fundraiser followed Biden’s record-breaking event in Los Angeles, where he raised over $30 million. This gathering included appearances by former President Obama, Hollywood figures like George Clooney and Julia Roberts, and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Combining these efforts with a fundraiser featuring First Lady Jill Biden, Biden’s campaign amassed a total of over $40 million from these recent events.

Despite Biden’s fundraising success, former President Trump has been actively closing the gap. In May, Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) reported a record $141 million in donations, partly driven by developments in Trump’s recent criminal trial. Trump’s fundraising efforts continued strong with a notable $27.5 million raised during recent events in California and Nevada.

As the fundraising battle intensifies, both campaigns are positioning themselves for the 2024 election rematch. Biden’s campaign emphasized the importance of these funds for defending democracy, while Trump’s team highlighted their momentum in catching up and surpassing previous fundraising records.
