He’s demanding the Supreme Court act.
On Sunday, Florida GOP Representative Byron Donalds called for the Supreme Court to intervene in former President Donald Trump’s New York case, where Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Speaking on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Donalds emphasized the need for the Supreme Court’s involvement, echoing similar sentiments expressed by Speaker Mike Johnson and many Americans.
Donalds pointed out the lengthy appellate process in New York and suggested that Supreme Court intervention could expedite the resolution of the case. He criticized the prosecution as politically motivated, describing it as an attempt to disrupt Trump’s election campaign.
“This is clearly a politically driven effort. Everyone understands the New York court system’s delays mean any potential overturning of this conviction won’t happen for two or three years,” Donalds told moderator Peter Alexander.
Donalds, who is reportedly under consideration as a vice presidential nominee by Trump, addressed Trump’s remarks at a Michigan event where Trump mentioned Donalds as a potential candidate for vice president. When asked about his readiness to assume presidential duties if necessary, Donalds expressed confidence in his ability to analyze complex issues and make sound decisions.
“I believe in myself and my ability to step up if needed. I am confident in my judgment and logical reasoning,” Donalds said, affirming his support for President Trump’s decisions going forward.
