Trump Intensifies Running Mate Search

Potential candidates have received vetting materials.

Donald Trump is actively seeking a running mate as he prepares for the Republican National Convention and faces legal challenges. According to sources familiar with the process, potential vice presidential candidates have received vetting materials from Trump’s team.

The focus of Trump’s search appears to be on four main contenders: North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Senators Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, and JD Vance. While some sources suggest a concentration on these individuals, others indicate a three-way competition involving Burgum, Rubio, and Vance.

Governor Burgum, who has been in closer contact with Trump recently, is confirmed to have been asked for vetting details. However, the full list of candidates undergoing vetting remains undisclosed.

Trump’s campaign adviser Brian Hughes emphasized that only Trump knows the ultimate decision regarding his running mate. The search process has been kept confidential, with potential for changes and unexpected candidates to emerge.

Various names have been mentioned as prospective running mates, including Governor Kristi Noem, Representatives Elise Stefanik and Byron Donalds, and former HUD Secretary Ben Carson. The timeline for Trump’s decision remains uncertain, with the convention approaching in July. In past instances, such decisions were typically announced shortly before the convention, as seen with Mike Pence in 2016.
