Trump wants nothing to with him.
According to a senior official from the Trump campaign who confirmed the matter to NBC News, former President Donald Trump’s campaign issued a cease and desist letter on Friday to the re-election campaign of Virginia GOP Representative Bob Good.
This action was taken after Good utilized Trump’s name and image in promoting his campaign, despite Trump’s endorsement of Good’s opponent, State Senator John McGuire, which was announced last Tuesday on Truth Social.
The letter, authored by attorney David Warrington, explicitly stated that neither Good nor his campaign had authorization to use Trump’s name or the Trump campaign’s endorsement to falsely suggest support for Good’s candidacy. Warrington emphasized that such misrepresentation constituted fraud against the voters of Virginia’s 5th Congressional District and an abuse of their trust.
Accompanying the letter was an image depicting campaign signs in Virginia featuring Trump’s name above Good’s.
Trump’s endorsement of McGuire, announced just before the letter was sent, was accompanied by a critique of Good’s prior endorsement of Ron DeSantis’ now-defunct presidential campaign. Trump accused Good, who chairs the House Freedom Caucus, of betraying the movement and expressed his desire to “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” with McGuire, whom he lauded as a Navy Seal and respected state legislator.
In addition to the yard signs, Good’s campaign website previously featured an image of Trump, albeit with a disclaimer indicating the endorsement was from 2022. Currently, the site prominently features an endorsement from Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky.
At the time of reporting, no response had been received from Good’s campaign regarding the matter.
