Clintons Help Biden Play Catch-Up

They are hosting an exclusive fundraiser dinner.

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are set to co-host an exclusive fundraising dinner for President Biden in Virginia next month. The event, scheduled for June 18, will be hosted by former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. This comes just days after another fundraiser in Los Angeles, featuring President Barack Obama alongside Biden and the Clintons, with actor George Clooney as the host.

This multi-president fundraising approach has proven effective in the past. In the 2024 cycle, Biden outpaced former President Trump in fundraising, as reported by Open Secrets. A similar fundraising initiative in New York yielded an impressive $26 million in a single night.

Despite Biden’s fundraising success, there is pressure to maintain his lead, especially considering Trump’s campaign received $76 million in donations in April, compared to Biden’s $51 million. This shift contrasts with March, where Biden and the DNC raised approximately $90 million, while Trump and the RNC amassed $65.6 million. However, Biden maintains an advantage in cash on hand, with $192 million across his campaign and related committees.

While Biden had been consistently outperforming Trump in monthly fundraising, Trump’s April contributions were boosted by a record-setting $50.5 million from a single event with top GOP donors at the Palm Beach, Florida home of billionaire investor John Paulson.

The Biden campaign highlights its grassroots donations, noting that the majority of April’s funds came from grassroots donors, with one million new supporters added to their email list in that month alone. They criticize Trump’s reliance on billionaire donors, contrasting it with their focus on building a sustainable grassroots fundraising program.

In response, Trump campaign senior advisers emphasize their grassroots fundraising strength, noting that half of their funds come from small-dollar donors. They assert their commitment to raising the resources needed for victory in November.
