Democratic Candidate Exposes Biden’s Weakness

She’s calling Biden out.

Maggie Goodlander, a Democratic candidate for Congress in New Hampshire and former Justice Department official, recently voiced her critique of the Biden administration’s approach to China. Goodlander, who is married to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, expressed her belief that more decisive action could be taken regarding China’s activities, particularly in areas such as opioid trafficking and support for the Russian military.

In an interview with WMUR-TV of Manchester, Goodlander emphasized the importance of holding Chinese entities accountable for their involvement in fueling conflicts and contributing to global issues such as the opioid crisis. She highlighted concerns about the role of Chinese chemical corporations in supplying precursor chemicals used in drug production, linking them to overdose deaths in New Hampshire and beyond.

While praising President Biden for his efforts to enhance the United States’ global standing, Goodlander also urged for further measures to address China’s actions. She commended recent steps taken by the administration, including imposing tariffs on Chinese exports and implementing sanctions on entities supporting Russia’s war efforts. However, she stressed the need for continued vigilance and action in countering actors involved in exacerbating conflicts, particularly in Ukraine.

Goodlander’s remarks come amidst escalating tensions between the U.S. and China, with both countries engaging in trade disputes and geopolitical maneuvers. Despite recent diplomatic engagements between President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, challenges persist in managing the complex relationship between the two nations.

Regarding concerns about potential conflicts of interest arising from her husband’s position in the White House, Goodlander affirmed her commitment to upholding the principles of separation of powers. She acknowledged the challenging nature of her husband’s role while emphasizing the importance of maintaining independent representation for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District.

Goodlander, who previously served in the Biden administration’s Justice Department, entered the congressional race alongside other Democratic contenders, including Colin Van Ostern and state Sen. Becky Whitley, vying for the seat currently held by Rep. Annie Kuster.
