Potential Running Mate Breaks Ranks With Trump

He has a different opinion on abortion.

Ben Carson, often mentioned as a possible running mate for Donald Trump, has released a new book advocating for a federal prohibition on abortion — a position that contrasts sharply with the former president.

In “The Perilous Fight,” which hit shelves on Tuesday, Carson, a prominent pediatric neurosurgeon who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under Trump, calls for legislation that guarantees the right to life for all American citizens, including the unborn. He urges a vocal and resolute stance in saving human lives through legislative means, emphasizing the responsibility incumbent upon citizens to advocate for the protection of those yet to be born.

This stance diverges from Trump’s current position, which does not support a nationwide ban on abortion. Trump has stated that he believes abortion policy should be determined at the state level, a sentiment echoed in an April video release. Despite Trump’s position, the abortion issue remains contentious within Republican circles, particularly as state-level debates over extreme abortion bans persist.

Carson’s book also delves into broader conservative values, advocating for a return to traditional family structures and urging men to take up leadership roles within their families. Additionally, he addresses concerns surrounding the decline of the American family, offering insights and proposals for addressing this societal challenge.
