Candidate Claims Biden Poses Graver Danger To Democracy

He believes Biden is worse than Trump.

During a recent interview on CNN, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent candidate in the presidential race, expressed his view that President Joe Biden poses a greater threat to democracy than his Republican counterpart, Donald Trump. Kennedy cited Biden’s alleged use of federal agencies to censor political speech as evidence of this threat, particularly referencing a case before the Supreme Court concerning government interaction with social media companies regarding content removal.

Kennedy highlighted his recent legal victory in a federal court of appeals, which he claims demonstrates Biden’s initiation of censorship through federal agencies. However, when questioned directly about the specific legal case, Kennedy’s campaign did not provide a direct response.

Kennedy’s stance on Biden’s perceived threat to democracy comes amidst his own controversial reputation as an anti-vaccine activist. His dissemination of misinformation related to vaccines and Covid has led to the removal of his organization, the Children’s Health Defense group, from major social media platforms.

Following Kennedy’s remarks, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) swiftly condemned his statements, emphasizing the stark contrast between Biden’s efforts to protect democracy and Trump’s actions. Mary Beth Cahill, a senior adviser for the DNC, criticized Kennedy’s comparison, highlighting Trump’s role in inciting the Capitol riots and his authoritarian rhetoric.

Kennedy’s candidacy has raised concerns among Biden allies, who fear that his presence in the race could detract votes from the incumbent president and potentially aid Trump’s re-election bid. Despite Kennedy’s familial ties to the Democratic Party, his advocacy has drawn sharp rebukes from members of his own family, who have voiced support for Biden and criticized RFK Jr.’s rhetoric.

During the interview, Kennedy also echoed Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, alleging that the 2000 and 2004 elections were “stolen.” This mirrors Trump’s repeated assertions about the 2020 election, which have been linked to the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021.

In contrast to Kennedy’s accusations, Biden has positioned himself as a defender of democracy, contrasting his commitment to democratic values with Trump’s actions during his presidency. Despite Kennedy’s attempts to frame Biden as a greater threat to democracy, the Biden campaign has deferred to the DNC’s response to Kennedy’s statements.
