Kennedy Dynasty Joins Forces With Biden’s Campaign

Will things change with their endorsement?

In President Joe Biden’s bid for reelection, the prospect of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent candidacy emerges as a potential disruptive force. However, for the extended Kennedy family, the concern lies not just in political terms but also in safeguarding their esteemed legacy from potential tarnish should one of their own inadvertently aid the campaign of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Certain members of the Kennedy clan have already voiced their allegiance to Biden for the upcoming election. Yet, a recent gathering of numerous Kennedys at the White House signals a more concerted effort by the family to bolster Biden’s reelection bid and counter the candidacy of RFK Jr.

According to a senior member of the Kennedy family, the gathering on St. Patrick’s Day at the White House, where they were photographed with Biden in the Rose Garden, was significant in showcasing unity across three generations and four branches of RFK Jr.’s relatives.

Regarding potential future actions involving Biden, the senior Kennedy member noted the importance of timing, hinting at a strategic approach.

Those close to the family suggest that their increased involvement in the 2024 race may take various forms. Some family members with political experience may hit the campaign trail, particularly in states where RFK Jr. is on the ballot. Others may engage in heightened media appearances or lend their prestigious family name to initiatives aimed at countering RFK Jr.’s campaign, including potential legal challenges to his candidacy.

The White House and Biden campaign are receptive to the Kennedy family’s efforts but are not dictating their actions. Sources familiar with the family’s advocacy indicate that the Biden team is allowing the Kennedys to take the lead in supporting the president’s candidacy, offering assistance as necessary.

Kerry Kennedy, the seventh child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy and president of the family foundation, has been instrumental in organizing the family’s political endeavors against RFK Jr.

In a move to counter third-party candidates, the Democratic National Committee has appointed Mary Beth Cahill, a former chief of staff to Sen. Ted Kennedy, as a senior adviser. The DNC points to the White House photograph as evidence of the Kennedy family’s support for Biden.

While members of the Kennedy family refrain from commenting on their potential campaign roles due to the delicate nature of the situation, the White House emphasizes the longstanding friendship between the Kennedys and Bidens.

Various members of the Kennedy family may approach the situation differently, with some more inclined to directly criticize RFK Jr., while others may simply express support for Biden, depending on their proximity and relationship to him.
