She has sunk to new lows.
A Catholic advocacy group is focusing on a video that features Vice President Kamala Harris with members of a drag troupe known for their provocative performances that parody Catholic nuns. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (SPI) is a drag performer collective that has faced criticism for its controversial acts, which some have labeled as mocking the Catholic faith. In response, CatholicVote has launched a significant ad campaign highlighting Harris’s interactions with SPI members during a 2019 pride event in San Francisco.
The advertisement includes footage of Harris alongside SPI members Michael Williams (or “Sister Roma”) and James Mitchell (“Saint Honey Mahogany”), presenting a montage that features sexually suggestive performances, including one involving a male figure posed on a cross in an imitation of the crucifixion. The campaign aims to challenge Harris’s associations, questioning why she would pose with individuals described as part of an “anti-Catholic hate group.”
Bishop Robert Barron, representing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Winona-Rochester, expressed his disapproval of SPI’s performances, which he finds offensive to Catholic values. In a statement from CatholicVote, the organization plans to share the ad with a wide audience, targeting one million Catholic voters in key states and engaging their activist network of 750,000 individuals.
The group has called on Harris to denounce SPI’s actions, asserting that the performances promote hatred and ridicule of religious beliefs. They emphasize that the drag troupe is not just an ordinary activist group but engages in sacrilegious acts, such as the “Hunky Jesus” competitions, where drag performers simulate inappropriate actions while dressed as religious figures.
In the context of her political stance, Harris has recently faced scrutiny from pro-life organizations regarding her views on abortion rights, particularly concerning potential religious exemptions to national mandates. Following a recent interview, where she expressed that no concessions should be made, pro-life advocates have accused her of attempting to impose federal policies that could infringe on the beliefs of Christians and others opposed to abortion.
